'Play your Part: improve your community' was developed in consultation with a wide range of young people, teachers and schools.
Resource development days were held across the country in order to gain young people's opinions and advice on what kind of resources should be used to successfully teach about citizenship education and sustainable communities. The young people were treated as consultants and their ideas and advice shape the whole toolkit. In addition to running these resource development days we also worked with various teachers across the UK to test ideas and the resources within the toolkit.
The toolkit aims to be flexible and fit in with the different ways in which schools teach citizenship education. The 'active' part of citizenship education is generally the most challenging area of the subject to teach and the toolkit recognises the logistical difficulties of setting up and running active citizenship projects. The toolkit seeks to offer ways which will not only teach about sustainable communities but introduce and support the planning, delivery and evaluation of an active citizenship project.

This resource has been produced by young people for young people. Without the inspirational thoughts and ideas of the young people we worked with in consultation it would never have turned out the way it has. We would like to name all the young people who helped us create this resource, and thank them for speaking up and sharing their ideas.
We'd also like to thank the staff and young people from:
