Community Artz:
Community Artz is a scheme to regenerate areas of inner city London with a series of vivid murals produced through the medium of graffiti. Run by four young people with a passion for designing and producing graffiti they are undertaking a series of commissions to decorate walls in public places. They are also running a series of workshops to guide younger "graffiti-ists" in the art form and in its ethical production.
S. T. A. g. youth Caf:
STAG (Sutherland Teenage Action Group) is the creation of a small group of highly motivated young people in North Sutherland. The young people intend to establish a youth caf as a meeting place in this rural community where recreational facilities are almost non-existent. In addition to being a place where young people can relax with friends, it will provide private study facilities.
Ghetto Blaster:
Two seventeen year-olds wanted to break down barriers to improve community relations in Belfast between young people across the sectarian divide. The project involves getting people from different sections of Belfast to draw a map of how they see Belfast and to indicate their reality. They will bring these young people together on walking tours of the city and have talks and seminars concerning ownership of the city, public spaces and neutral spaces. The young people will be asked to draw a map of the city again to see if it has changed. They hope to present their maps in booklet form and perhaps in some art display.
Access to Dance:
Four young people are running the Access to Dance Project. Pupils from three primary schools near Plymouth will receive dance training, including children with special needs. The project will contain regular dance sessions to promote healthy exercise and creative expression for young people in an area lacking recreational facilities.
Far East Club:
The school initiated a monthly after school club so that pupils of more than 50 nationalities could develop friendships, support each other and share experiences. Activities focussed on visits to China Town, guest speakers, food tasting evenings etc. The pupils and staff decided to take on a bigger challenge and organise a World Culture Day Celebration. The day aimed to promote social harmony and integration and to celebrate cultural diversity.
